Bilingual Speech Language Pathologist

Karla Garza is a Speech-Language Pathology Intern. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences from The University of Texas at Austin and went on to complete her Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology at The University of Texas at Austin. During her graduate training, she also earned a Bilingual Certificate from UT Austin, further strengthening her ability to provide services in both English and Spanish. She has several years of experience working in the pediatric field. She previously worked as a bilingual Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) in both school and clinical settings before pursuing her graduate degree. During her training, she gained experience across a variety of settings including private clinics, pediatric acute care, and the NICU, developing skills in language development, articulation, feeding, and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). Originally from a border town in Texas, Karla is fully bilingual in English and Spanish and is passionate about supporting bilingual families and culturally diverse communities.She joined Promise Center for Autism as a Speech-Language Pathology Intern and works closely with ABA teams, occupational therapists, and families to support children’s communication development. Her focus in therapy is providing engaging, play-based and functional communication opportunities that help children build independence and confidence in their everyday environments.She currently lives in San Antonio and enjoys baking, doing creative projects, and spending time outdoors.
